Another "Mesopotamia" with lots of natural beauty.
The Province Entre Rios (Between Rivers) is in the northeast of Argentina, and as the name indicates, is situated inbetween two rivers (the Río Paraná and the Río Uruguay) in the so called “Mesopotamia” region. The main town is called Parana.
The biggest part of the region is a fertile plain, which is used for agriculture and stock farming and hence is one of the most prosperous provinces of Argentina.
The interesting history of the settlement in this region goes back to the middle of the 18th Century. Mostly European immigrants settled in this part of Argentina, who created here farming colonies. However, there is also still a presence of the Guarani Indian population.
Tourism here is basically generated from regional interest. The calm beauty of the two rivers and the tropical atmosphere are very attractive. Also here is situated the National Park El Palmar with more than 100 year old Yatay-Palm trees and a rich animal world. Internationally known is the carnival of Gualguaychú which takes place every year in January and February. Various pretty colonial towns are found along the Río Uruguay amongs them Concordia or Colon, which is also a thermal bath or hot spring.
