Garden of the Republic in Tucuman, Argentina

Tucuman is the smallest province in Argentina. It is situated in the northwest of the country and its capital is officially called San Miguel de Tucumán, but locally it is only called Tucuman.

In the east, the land is flat and in the west, there are many hills and mountains. The highest summets in this province reach more than 5,000m high.

Tucuman has many inhabitants and has the full aspect of a city. Almost 80% of the population lives in San Miguel de Tucumán and its suburbs (all together approx. 800,000 inhabitants).

Because of its varied vegetation, it is also known as "Jardín de la República" garden of the Republic and it is full of beautiful sites to behold. This province´s capital was founded in 1565, and is considered the "cradle of the Argentine independence," and is a vivid, regional centre of trade and economy, with an open spirit and numerous culture historic monuments. With Tafi del Valle, it possesses an attractive spa location and also a small village in ruins called Quilmes, which possesses a valid relict of Indian history.
