Two breathtaking natural wonders of Argentina in one go. Next to each other are these two great, bizarre landscapes marked by erosion, and only divided by the provincial border of San Juan and La Rioja.

The Valle de la Luna can be compaired with the US national park Zion or Bryce Canyon. It is located approx. 320km north from San Juan. If you come here on your own, you´d better stay over night in the nearby San Agustín de Valle Fértil. It is also possible to reach this place by bus, but with the car one has better chances to see the park. Be careful however, this tour includes a long ride through the desert.

Named after the Indian Chief Ischigualasto, the Valle de la Luna comes together with Talampaya an approx. 6,000 qkm sized region. We first suggest a visit to the museum at the park entrance of Ischigualasto . Afterwards, one can make a tour of this place that will transport you back 2 million years. It looks like a moon landscape. Wind and water gave the soft rocks their own forms and are quite breathtaking.

The Valle Pintado (painted valley) derives its name from the stone segments which are coloured in with copper and ferrous sulfate. It is also a open air museum of the most bizzare and strange forms in stone, all natural sculptures. Also for visitors without geological knowledge, this is a very interesting site to visit because it is full of wonders. In this natural habitat, many animals reside, such as eagles, etc.
