In between rushing brooks and quiet forests.

San Luis with shares the same name with its capital, and is a province in the western centre of Argentina.

In the north of the province are some mountain ranges situated (Sierra de San Luis, Sierra de los Comechingones). The southern part is very flat and forms the crossover from the Pampas to the desert like Cuyo region. The climate here is moderate and relatively dry with little rain.

Most of the population are descendants of the Spanish and the Italians, however there are also Metizos (a mix of Indian natives and European immigrants) that account for a great part of the population . The southern part of the province is scarcely populated.


This rather rich and tax-priviledged province is known because of its mountain landscapes. A typical starting point for hiking and tours is the Merlo Tourist Centre, with its oxygen enriched micro climate submontane of the Sierra de los Comechingones. Other tourist centres are the reservoir of Potrero de los Funes next to San Luis and the mountain village El Trapiche in the Sierra de San Luis.
