Colourful religion in breathtaking nature in Argentina

San Juan (with same named capital) is a province in the west of Argentina in the region Cuyo.

The whole territory of the province is predominated by the Andes, landscapes of erosion, dry steppes and small sandy deserts. The climate is sunny, dry, and continental.

Like that of southern Mendoza, the population here centres around a few oasis-valleys and most of them in the capital.

San Juan too, is one of the most important winegrowing regions, and offers big wonderful landscapes. Worth a visit is the natural park Ischigualasto also known by the name of Valle de la Luna, or Valley of the Moon (UNESCO worlds natural heritage site) with it strange, other-worldly rock formations. Also the great Calingasta Valley (Valle de Calingasta) between the Andes chain and the pre-Kordilleres is well worth seeing, and also the much further away Cuesta del Viento Reservoir, centred in the desert, known as one of the best places for windsurfing. The Difunta Correa is an important religious memorial place of San Juan and the sunny capital (300 sunny days a year) leaves one with a very pleasant impression.
