Green paradise

Misiones is situated in the furthest northeast of Argentina between Paraguay and Brazil. The capital is Posadas am Río Parana.

The area is made up of soft, green hills and has quite lush vegetation as its subtropical climate provides humidity all year round. There is no so called rainy season.

Misiones is relatively populated. Many of the European settlers established themselves here during the 19th and 20th Century. The native population of the Guarani are still living in the area.

Misiones Province was named after the missions of the Jesuits. Four of the Jesuits missions were 1984 by Unesco put onto the list of world heritage, amongst others the most known in San Ignacio Mini (two more are found in Sta. Ana and Loreto). The greatest attraction for tourists are the Iguazú waterfalls in the furthest north of the province on the border to Brazil. Like the missions, these are part of our world heritage as well. Bordering on the waterfalls is the National Park Iguazu, which hosts plenty of birds, mammals and a great variety of plants.

The landcape of Misiones is lovely with its characteristic red Herat, palm trees, green vegetation, lush grasslands, lakes and rivers.
