Marine and mountain beauties in Argentina, Chubut

Chubut is named after its river and is part of the four provinces in the region of Patagonia. It reaches the Andes in the west over the wide steppe landscape to the Atlantic in the east. The capital is Rawson.

Chubut is Patagonia at its wildest: wide, wild, rough, exposed to the strong winds, with deep lying rivers and is quite isotated. It apartently was also the land in which “the little price” of Saint-Exupéry lived his adventures.

As of the second half of the 19th Century, the Welsh populated great parts of the region. Witnesses thereof are the street names, the architecture and the different events held here.

In the almost isolated province are some quiet wintersport villages like Esquel and two National Parks and nature preservations like the Península Valdés in the Atlantic (1999 declared World Heritage Site). There are flamingos, penguins, seabirds, seals, and whales that reside in this area. Another attraction is the petrified tree trunks from erosion-formed landscape of the Bosques Petrificados (Petrified Wood Forests) José Ormachea as well as the traditional Welsh colonies Gaiman and Dolavon.
