A colourful spot..

Catamarca is a province in the northwest region of the Andes in Argentina. The official name of the main town is San Fernando del Valle de Catamarca, however the shortcut of Catamarca is widely used.

The Province is mountainous with the exception of the southeast (Pampa) and the high plateau of Belen. This centres the province and has a desert-like climate. A big region is covered by the Andes and the foothills.

Except for the northeast, the climate is dry and subtropical. In the northeast you will find jungles, and the rest of the province is characterised by a steppe vegetation.

The Catamarca is a hidden area of this land that has some natural beauties of its own. If you are looking to make a nice nature trip, you should drive from San Fernando to the "Poncho"- Centre Belén. The capital is very picturesque and was build 1683 in colonial style. Its inhabitants are very fond of their traditional roots. Folklore can be found in Catamarca almost everywhere.
