Mate or Quilmes are the two most important drinks of Argentina, although we shouldn´t forget the wine.
The Argentinians like to drink redwine, white wine, and beer. Argentinian wine is of good international quality, and is cultivated in the Cuyo Region and the northwest of the country. The most known beer here is Quilmes Beer. Mineral water and limonades are sold everywhere. Also fruit juices and Licuados (milk shakes) are very popular. Coffee, especially espresso, was brought to the country by Italian immigrants.
The national Argentine drink is Mate Tea, made of Mate leaves which are grown in the northeast of the country. This is a traditional and ritual drink of the Argentinians. But originally it was a tradition of the Indians, who collected and dried the leaves and prepared them in a very special way. Then the Jesuits took over the way of preparation. Stimulting for stomach and the spirit, it keeps away hunger and thirst and acts as a stimulant to help you stay awake. It is prepared in a small cup with a silver straw and gets passed around, everyone takes a sip. People drink it everywhere and an all occasions, except for in bars and restaurants, because of the laborious preparation. One can get it in a teabag though.
